Vintage Items and Antiques are Not Only Sustainable, They are Beautiful Ways to Decorate and Collect!

We may not have begun 2021 with a huge bang, but as this year progresses, the interest in vintage items and antiques is rising! At the Landmark in Mission Viejo, we have remained busy helping customers find exactly what they are looking for every day. We have been and stay open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, with special sales at special times during the year. Pebble Beach Vintage and The South Swell Loft are also still going strong, and we not only continue to delve into our treasure boxes from our line of antique collectors, we also search estate sales and special places to find the most sought after, rare and collectible items on the earth! Keep checking in with us on our sites and in our shops for sustainable, vintage, antique and collectible items.

Vintage is the new green!

Reclaiming, reusing and purchasing vintage/used/antique items has become a trend in sustainability in 2019. Even back as far as 2015, Nielsen conducted a poll in which 30,000 consumers were questioned in 60 countries. The overwhelming conclusions were these:

66% of global consumers and 73% of Millennials are willing to pay extra for one thing: SUSTAINABILITY

Places where these consumers traditionally shopped are now coming forward with “replica” vintage items and some sustainability programs of their own, but the true way to find vintage items for decor, clothing and gifts is in our antique and collectible shops, thrift shops and garage sales. Though these sources are good, finding exactly the right item is best done on line, with millions of vintage and antique items on sources from Etsy to ebay, among the many online antique malls now available.

As vintage becomes more accessible, more people can find what they are looking for and avoid the “replica or repro” world, finding authentic vintage and antique items that are shipped right to their door.

Expanding the World of Vintage and Antiques in 2020

So much has changed in the world as we reach the end of June 2020, bringing the first half of this year to a close. We have already been through some of the devastating effects of the Covid-19 Pandemic from health, economic and sociological standpoints. We are seeing a deep need and desire across the world for equality in all human beings. We are seeing almost a turn away from sustainability and history, as pockets of lawlessness and destruction occur, in some of the most historic areas of our world. We are seeing things we have never seen before.

Though it is difficult not to let our hearts be troubled, it is still a beautiful world, and we have much to be thankful for. The beauty in nature is becoming a place of respite for many, whether in looking out to the ocean or into the bird houses and feeders in our yards. The beauty of friends and family is appreciated more than ever, as we have been kept apart and felt the longing for that hug, that warm embrace. And the beauty of history, of things of the past, the antiques and vintage items of yesteryear are bringing a kind of appreciation like never before as we treasure its value.

As our customers seek their happy places, their comfort–we find them taking great comfort in the things of the past. Not just our older customers at Pebble Beach Vintage Antiques, but also our younger customers who visit The South Swell Loft on Esty. People are enjoying things from times gone by more than ever right now. No matter how you prefer to find the treasures of the past, we are here to help you do that.

At The Landmark Antiques and Collectibles Mall in Mission Viejo, we have expanded our space to share more of our collections with our customers. The shop has placed health and safety first, requiring masks, installing windows between the register and buyers, and providing hand sanitizer at the entrance. The friendly volunteer staff there who each have spaces are there to welcome customers and answer questions. https://www.facebook.com/pages/category/Antique-Store/The-Landmark-Antiques-and-Collectibles-Mall-171269806306150/

Our Etsy shops are making every effort to provide same day fulfillment of orders, so as long as we are in town, and the post office is still open, the orders are usually fulfilled and shipped the day they are purchased. We are placing sales on items at The Landmark, and on Etsy at Pebble Beach Vintage and The South Swell Loft as much as we can, and are working to keep our prices competitive and shipping free. https://www.etsy.com/shop/PebbleBeachVintage

Thank you loyal customers for being here with us through this first half of 2020. We have been happy to serve you and look forward to serving you with wonderful new items every week in each of our shops. We get so much enjoyment from your reviews and your emails telling us how much you love our items, and we look forward to many more as we embark upon the second half of this unprecedented year of 2020.

Take care, stay safe and in the words of Charles Dickens’ Tiny Tim, God bless us. . .every one.
